Party Hire in Richmond

Richmond's terraces have small backyards, so many parties head to a park. The City of Yarra sets out when a gathering needs a permit and what can go up.

Planning a party in Richmond

The City of Yarra lets a small party use its parks without a permit: under 50 people, no tickets and no amplified sound. Go past any of those, bring in caterers, reserve a spot, put up something bigger than 3 m by 3 m or drive in to drop off equipment, and the council's events policy applies (City of Yarra events policy).

Gazebos in Yarra parks

A 3 m by 3 m gazebo is allowed without a permit, but Yarra prohibits pegs and spikes, so it has to be weighted down. Ask the hire business for weights. Anything larger, or a delivery vehicle on the grass, means applying for an events permit, which the council says can take from two weeks to six months depending on the event (City of Yarra events permit).

Richmond parks to consider

Citizens Park on Church Street is Richmond's largest park, with a pavilion, barbecue, toilet and playground. Barkly Gardens in Mary Street is a 19th century garden square with barbecues, a pavilion and toilets. Both are listed by the council as bookable for events.
